WIND TURBINES UNDER DEVELOPMENT

Among our goals as a growing organization in the field of renewable energy, at the present we are involved in the development of two wind turbines, the  WT300 and WT600.

The specialization gained in the field of wind energy has allowed us to accomplish theoretical models for applications as aerodynamic design of rotors and electromagnetic design of the axial flux permanent magnet generator. This has been possible due to the research and experimentation work done in the last years which has included  not only construction of several prototypes but also development projects that we have done for private companies and organizations.

At the following some characteristics and technical specifications of the permanent magnet generators constructed, the WT300 and WT600 are detailed, also some snap shots are shown:

CHARACTERISTICS

The wind turbines WT300 y WT 600 have been designed with similar characteristics:

  • Both wind turbines are up wind which means that the rotor faces the wind.

  • The rotor (made by fiberglass) has a great swept area, this is useful for a good performance of the wind turbine under low and moderated winds.

  • The axial flux permanent magnet generator works with low rotating speed (RPM). It does not have cores, therefore cogging is avoided and the wind turbine with just a light breeze starts turning.

  • DIRECT coupling between rotor and generator.

  • FURLING TAIL protection against high wind speed.

  • Low tip speed, under 75 m/s which is a low value comparing with other wind turbines available in market.

ESTIMATED MONTHLY ENERGY OUTPUT
Assumptions (Energy output may vary):
  • Inland sites, 300 m of altitude, wind frequency distribution by Rayleigh (coefficient k=2, Weibull distribution).

  • Wind speed measured at 10 m of height, wind turbine tower of 12 m.

  • Medium roughness terrains: low crops, low woods (Wind shear exponent = 0,20).

  • Constant voltage of battery bank: 12, 24 or 48 VDC.

  • No power losses in wires are considered.
